The past couple weeks have gone really well. My training is really coming around and for the first time since last outdoor I'm starting to feel a little more like my old self. I had a couple races since the last time I posted the first being sectionals (Section III Indoor Championships on February 9th), where I ran the 3200m. I ran pretty well, running a 9:12, but still felt like I had a lot left in me. About a week later we had the league meet (CNYCL & OHSL Boys Championships Februay 17th). I ran in the 3200m 1600m and a leg in the 4x800m relay. I really went after the 3200m and ended up running 9:08 and felt really good doing it. I came back about 30 minutes later and ran to win the 1600m as easily as possible and then came back a little while after that in the 4x800m. An extremely exhausting day, but an exciting way to get one of my workouts in for the week. Since the races my training has been going well, we are keeping my mileage up and throwing in some workouts here and there to try and get ready for the end of the indoor season. I have state quals coming up in 5 days and a little over a week after that is the state meet. I will conclude my indoor season at Nike Indoor Nationals (March 12-14 Reggie Lewis Center, Boston, MA), where I will most likely run the mile. Luckily I have some experience on the Nike Indoor Nationals track (Boston Indoor Games were run at the same place.)
I'll keep you posted as I head into the final few races of indoor....

Sorry it's been a while, I meant to post a couple times last week, but had an extremely busy couple days...
Last Wednesday I officially signed as a UW Badger . We had a couple other kids on the team sign with other schools so we had a "track signing day" up at the school. It was really cool to see everyone pick the places they will spend the next four years of their lives.
I left for Boston last Friday and I can honestly say it was one of the best weekends I have ever had. From the very beginning all the high school athletes were treated like kings, it made for a really stress-free couple days which helped me prepare for the race... The race went out pretty slow. We went through the half in 2:08 and I felt really comfortable the whole way. For most of the race I sat in the back half of the pack and after 800m I started to work my way up towards the leaders. Through 1200m the pace stayed slow, so with about 350-300m to go I went after it, passing the leaders with about 200m to go and was able to run away from them in the last lap. I had no real plan going into the race other than just putting myself in a position to win, and it went really well. We got back from Boston Sunday evening, just in time to watch the Super Bowl. Had to rout for the Saints in that one. photo by George Ross/DIGITALphotoconcept
So far this week I have just been getting back into my normal training routine. I have done a couple good runs and last night I competed in the Section 3 Championships. Unfortunately the team (Fayetteville-Manlius ) wasn't in any position to win, but I was able to focus on just running one event, the 2-mile. The race went really well I ran an even paced 9:12 and felt extremely smooth and comfortable through the entire thing. It feels really good to finally be back racing and training. Looking forward to all the training and racing that lays ahead of me.

I've had a great week of training since I last wrote. I got into Manley Field House earlier this week and had a good workout. I haven't done a whole lot of speed work yet so these few workouts I get in before my race in Boston this Saturday are pretty important. With the race being just under a week away I'm real excited. I haven't been in a super competitive race since Nike Nationals last spring, so this should be a good test to see what kind of shape I'm in.
Just a couple days ago I got my letter of intent in the mail and on Wednesday I will sign and officially become a UW Badger . Really looking forward to that!
I have a big week ahead of me so I'll make sure to post a couple more times. Probably once on Wednesday after I sign and once on Friday or Saturday before my race.

I'll kick off my blog with a little introduction...
I am currently a senior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School and have been running for the school since the 8th grade. I picked up running in hopes of keeping in shape for soccer and never even thought of it as a sport really. My first season of track went really well, I had a lot of fun and found success in the sport so I decided to give up soccer after my freshman year and run year round. I am committed to run at the University of Wisconsin next year and look forward to pursuing my collegiate and hopefully some sort of post collegiate careers in years to come....
My goal for this blog is to post once a week as I get back into shape and head into the competetive racing season. After missing the entire cross country season due to late summer kidney surgery, this indoor season marks my return to the competetive racing scene. I have been building up my mileage over the past month-and-a-half and am preparing for a couple big meets coming up, including the mile at the Boston Indoor Games on February 6th.
I hope you find my blog helpful and entertaining. I'm looking forward to keeping you all posted as my season unfolds.
