Last week seems nice to look back on; I went back out to Stanford to run a 3k steeple for the second time this season. I ended up running 8:29 which puts me 6th in the world right now. I was content for the most part; I thought that I could have done a thing or two differently in the race itself but over all it was a good experience competing with the best American steepler’s in the country. I am happy with the way things are going right now, the running is going great, things just keep getting better and I feel stronger as the season progresses.
I have been on the same training routine for the past couple of months and might change a couple of things up in the next couple of weeks to come, but I think overall the training is going great. I am going to race a mile in St. Louis on the 22nd of May, which should be competitive and a great opportunity to run 3:56ish. I am looking forward to that, take a short break from the steeple and back to the mile for some fun. After that I am going to train until USA Nationals. This is what we are looking forward to…
I was asked the other day an interesting question, it was. In the past year what were your best 5 minutes? For me this was tough, I think hearing the questions a couple of times, people were answering it for me saying Sub 4, talking about a couple races and such… I thought to myself and wondered what the best 5 mins was in the past year? I came up with a couple things, but I wouldn’t say the best 5 min, what if it was 5 mins that you could have back or something you are looking forward to and you don’t want to use that 5 min up. Some I came up with this, for the 5 min I would say being with my grandfather and having that time back, I know 5 min is not much, but I guess you don’t know what is to come and you can’t predict the future, so yeah I would say that is where I would use that 5 min. In the regard to things in the future, I am looking forward to possible going to an Alan Jackson concert, this is on my list for the 3 things to do before I die and here is my opportunity. I am really excited about this concert, so in the future response I would say that is where I would use the 5 min. Well if your interested I guess ill tell you the other two things on the list since everyone reading this is dying to know, here we go #1- Alan Jackson concert, #2 Skydive, and #3 trip to Europe. That’s it the three things that I will someday do.
Well Ill try to post next week leading up tol the mile race on the 22nd. Ill leave you with this MAR 9:23 "'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." I’m DREAMIN BIG

It’s been a little while since I have
posted; I apologize to you avid followers. I have again had a lot going
on both running and personally. Last time I posted was before the
Stanford Invite where I ran 8:34 in the 3k steeple at the time it was
the fastest time in the world, now it is third. I have been working
hard, running smart and ready to go again in a week and a half. I will
be going back out to Cali to run the 3k steeple and try to dip under
8:25 and go for the win. I am excited again about this opportunity.
There was a recent article in the Post Standard (the local Syracuse
paper) about myself, it was nice to read…
4-17-2010_syracuse_post_article_heath 173.96 Kb Looking over the article made
me put a lot of things into perspective. This year has been good,
achieving a lot of the goals I had set forth at the beginning. I am
content so far and will continue on working hard to accomplish the rest
of the “list” that we had planned out.
Out side of running, I have had
some issues and that is why it has taken me so long to post. Last week
we lost my grandfather at the age of 97; this was tough being my last
grandparent and seeing my dad go through this along with some other
problems. No matter how tough you are and act this is hard on one; I had
a tough time with this. I have some good memories and learned what hard
work really is from this hard working, tough man. So in that regard
thank you Art, for now I am just trying to make him happy with the man I
am today. I am focused on the big goal and have been making steps to
achieve this, ill get there. Still DREAMING BIG 2.14…
I also thought
that I would post a verse from the bible after all of my posts from now
on, that way if someone is reading this, they can be left with something
to think about and can try to see how that verse fits in to his or her
life. Thanks again for all of the support, it is very appreciated and I
would not be where I’m at today without it, Kyle.
- This week I am
going to go with Jeremiah Chapter 12 verse 5-6…
“Then the lord replied to me “If
racing against mere men makes you tired, how will you race against
horses?” If you stumble and fall on open ground, what will you do in the
thickets near the Jordan? Even your own brothers, members of your own
family, have turned on you. They have plotted, raising a cry against
you. Do you not trust them, no matter how pleasantly they speak.
At times life can
be tough, really tough. You may find yourself wishing for something
better or even praying that things can go back to “normal” or to what
you had before, I do. In this regard I am waiting for god to answer my
prayers and I feel that if I am committed to him things will eventually
get better. Even when things look grey, this commitment can change or
affect yourself as well as the people that are close to you.

Well the past week has gone by fast, I got two great, hard workouts this
week and a really good long run as well. I have felt great, confident
and ready to race my 3k steeple opener this outdoor season at Stanford
next Friday night. As the indoor season has come to an end I was content
with the two races that I ran and I am looking forward to racing
outdoor. I would like to race hard and qualify early in the season,
there seems to be a number of good runners in the fast heat out at
Stanford, Im excited and ready to go. This is what I have been waiting
for and I cant wait to head out to run fast. DREAM BIG 2.14

After traveling home Sunday the 28th, I was back in Syracuse ready to
work and prepare for the next race, this was going to be another shot
at sub 4 which may have been a little overdue. I was going to race at
the armory March 5th, this past weekend. I would have another shot at
sub 4, what I was hoping for this indoor season and not knowing if I
would be able to get into a mile indoors. I left Thursday and traveled
down to NYC when I had been many times before, it became a routine,
this trip, the prep, eating a similar places along the way, it felt
comfortable as usual. With the thought of sub 4 in my mind I was
excited about this opportunity that had come out of no where. I raced
Friday night at 6:05 and ended up running 3:59.83, I did it, it was
done, over, I could cross it off the list. I traveled home that night,
woke up the next morning and didn't feel any different, I was excited to
go out and get a run in for sure. I was ready to get some miles in and
get back to work... I am excited that this barrier has been broken and
ready to go for the next 3:55... for now DREAM BIG 2.14

Well the past two weeks have been interesting for the most part. I have a had a big up as well as a big down. I ended up going down to USA Indoor Nationals two weekends ago with the intent to race in the 3k. I was very excited for this opportunity to get in a race with the best guys in the world. I had qualified two weeks before at BU Valentines Invite with a time of 8:02. I was feeling great the work was done and I was ready to race. I left the 26th of Feb. and flew to NM for the race. I was supposed to race Saturday the 27th at 8:15. I got into NM and found out that I was not yet declared in the race and decided that I would go to the administrative office to take care of this matter, so I did. I was then told that I should just come back in the a.m. so that I could declare and race later that day. Fast-forward to Saturday morning about 9:30, still thinking I am going to declare and race today, didn't think it was a big deal, but not sure about the whole process in the first place. After about an hour of being at the office I find out that I will not be able to race due to not being declared in the event. At first I was shocked and didn't know what to say then I became angry due to the fact that I had put myself in the position to race with these guys and this silly process was going to keep me from racing. After a while I calmed down and thought to myself that this was out of my control and I would not be able to change this, I then decided that I would do a workout before going to the track to watch the 3k itself. I got in a great workout in the foothills and called it a day, later that night I went to the track and watched the 3k, this was one of the hardest things I have ever had to sit through, wishing I was racing myself, wishing this had not happened.... for the rest of the night the race played in my head, thinking about where I would have placed my self in the race, wondering where I would have finished, when I would have kicked... all of this meant nothing now. It was just a memory playing in my head, a lot of what if's, after things settled down I realized that funny things happen and it was meant to be for some reason. I thought to myself that I would just have to work harder and I had a year to get stronger, smarter and ready for the same race a year from then...

Well, I ran at BU Valentine Invitational this past weekend in the 3k, thought that it was a good start to the indoor season. I was very excited and getting ready for this race since it had been a while since I had been on the track racing. I wanted to qualify for US Indoors and thought that I was in good enough shape to run sub 8 if the race played out. I ended up running about 8:02 and was content qualifying for USA's, but would have liked to dip under 8. I am again excited to get back o the track next weekend at USA's. I have another two weekes to get stronger and better, the workout yesterday was short, but felt good, just trying to sharpen up and gain some strength. Ill try to post after fridays workout. The 3k race is posted on flotrack.org under BU Valentine Invite coverage. 1st 3k heat+ there is also a post race interview if interested, for now DREAM BIG 2.14

Another good week of training has passed, worked out yesterday, got in some good fast work. Felt strong again, looking forward to racing. After a long summer of racing, then taking about a three month break, Im ready again. I cant wait, feel that I am more than ready at this point. Mind is good, body is ready to go fast, well I think it is.
Things have also progressed on the running scene as well, which has made me feel better about racing and training. Ill have more specifics as the week progresses, but I feel very welcome and can't wait to be part of such a great group with alot of potential for the future. This is a great opportunity that I will take full advantage of to get to the next level and make the dreams reality.
Excited for this week to come, another good workout and ill be ready to go... for now Dream Big, I'll post again before the 3000m race at BU Valentine Invitational on February 13th.

Alright, done with my fourth week back. Worked out on Friday, some work inside on the track then out to finish up the workout, cold. Really good work, felt very strong... ready to go. Saturday long run, another buck 30 at 7:30, about the coldest I've been in a long time, good for me though, just makes you tough. Looking forward to another solid week of training... can't wait to race, gearing up ready to go.
Also wanted to congratulate the guys and girls that went to Boston University's Terrier Invitational this past weekend. Both sides had many great performances, you can see the results on the Flotrack website , BU Invite. It's nice to see the progression of the younger guys and girls at Syracuse. It's fun watching them grow up and figure this running thing out.

Tattoo's, self expression... |

Today I had another good workout, got my double in around 9am. Felt strong for about 95% of it. Getting some more miles in and feeling good about it. Feeling stronger as the weeks progress.
Outside of the running update, I wanted to talk about something other than running for this post. I thought it might be interesting to talk about the tattoo's that I have had done. Over the past six years I have been expressing myself through tattoo's, this is a way for me to express how I felt about specific events that have happened in my life. I now have six tattoos and plan on getting more down the road. I'll go through each tattoo and give an explanation of why I got the tattoo and the meaning behind it.
The first tattoo that I got was my initials on my upper right arm, this is pretty self- explanatory. I got this tattoo done the summer before my freshman year at Syracuse University. The next was a cross on my upper back which I later added wings. I got this tattoo to express how god gave me a gift and how I plan to use it to it's full potential, showing that comitment to myself. The third was a winged foot with the word Syracuse across it on my left leg, Syracuse has been my home for the past 5 years and my running career has developed due to being here, it has become a big part of my life. I decided to get the tattoo, with a couple others who were on the team at the time John Graham, Brian McNeil and Geoff Nelson... all of these guys have a similar Syracuse XC tattoo. The forth tattoo is the words "miles of trials" on my left side, this was something that I had thought about for a while. I felt that I didn't want to take the whole saying, but I believed in the "miles of trials" aspect of the statement. I believe that all of these miles, workouts, long runs, reg. days, they are all part of this "trial" of one's self. For someone to try to figure out and push both physically and mentally to get to that next level, this is what it meant to me and I found myself thinking this from year to year, trying to push myself and find what works for me...
The fifth was a tattoo that reads 09AA08 this was my All American tattoo, I told myself that if I was ever an All- American that I wanted a tattoo showing this accomplishment. I was an all american in the 3000m steeplechase in 2008 and 2009 and that is the meaning behind this one. All of these tattoos have a specific meaning behind them, but that is it for now, I will be adding a couple more down the road, but I am content. I have more things to accomplish and other important events that will happen in my life and I believe that these tattoos are a great way for one to express feelings or events that occur.
Ill try to post again later this week, for now dream big

Sunday, long run this morning followed by church and football. Had a good run, felt strong again today... getting better and better. Church was good this morning, interesting talk about attitudes and how then can change the direction of one's life, seems fair. Watching the Jets game now, excited to see the Vikings VS Saints showdown in a bit. Would like to see Favre VS the Jets, would make an exciting game. Well this week should be another good week of training. Looking forward to getting better, stronger...

Alright, well, I worked out on Friday and had another positive workout. Felt good and was strong.
Excited to be back and be in the place that I'm in right now. I would tell you what the workout was, but I cant, top secret ha ha. Well, I have been feeling good about things, now that I have a plan and I working towards some kind of goal it's easier to understand the master plan. I am determined, ready and willing to sacrifice a lot to get there.
In the next couple of weeks I will be posting a blog about post collegiate athletes and the lack of funding. I have been fortunate to have some help since out of school, but it is a tough transition for anyone to make. I graduated from Syracuse and knew what I wanted to do, train for the Olympics in 2012 , but never thought I would not find much funding along the way. Well, at first I did and I needed to look at other options not knowing what was to come. I had a tough transition, was stressed out about financial matters, not knowing where I was going, worrying about getting a shoe contract along with a job and it became overwhelming. All of this hit me hard and I lost some positive things in my life because of it, but I trying to regroup and look at the positive things that are happening now. At times its tough, but taking it day by day is the only thing one can do. I know that others may graduate and find jobs or go to grad school, but this was my decision and dream, now I have the opportunity and I am going to take full advantage of the situation.
For now 2.14 Dream Big

Alright, I'm through the test run. I have never been into this blogging thing, but now I have the opportunity to discuss topics such as post collegiate athletics, my life inside and out of running, and other related topics. My goal is to blog about twice a week or when appropriate. I want this to be a kind of diary so that I can look back and see the progression leading up to the trials in 2012. I hope that my blog will be of interest to most people while giving me an opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas.
Well today was my first workout after base training for the past 3 weeks, before taking 2.5 weeks off after a long racing season and summer. I am still living in Syracuse and training with Syracuse University team under coaches, Chris Fox and Brien Bell . These two have been around for the past 5 years here at Syracuse and have shown me endless possibilities. I have enjoyed training with Coach Fox, things have been going great and I thought it would be the best situation to stay around the area and keep training trying to make the dream reality here at home. I enjoy being here, close to my family and coach has made this possible with the help of Team Niagara Elite. I am going to work hard, train harder and think big for the next couple years and see what happens. I have goals set in my mind for indoor and outdoor this year, things i would like to accomplish as well as meets that I would like to compete in. I appreciate all of the support from everyone and hope that I can give something back to my family, friends, coaches, Syracuse and Farmington... all of these aspects and people have been a big part of my life and again it's my turn to give back and recognize all of the help that I have received along the way..... 2.14
