2010 December Highlights December 15th - Indianapolis, IN - USATF Foundation Chairman Bob Greifeld and Executive Director Tom Jackovic announced today it has awarded 23 youth grants to track & field clubs throughout the country. The grants assist young male and female athletes with expenses such as travel to meets, equipment, uniforms, awards and facility rental. “It's a good feeling to end the year by making these youth grants to so many deserving clubs, schools and other track & field-related organizations,” said Jackovic. “It's through these groups that the Foundation fulfills its mission." God's Speed Track Club of Buffalo is awarded a $1500 grant to assist in travel expenses and meet fees. 2010_youth_grant_recipients 101.46 Kb The award honors dedicated high school coaches of boys' and girls' teams, based on criteria established by USATF and selected from six regional finalists as determined by a USATF selection committee. December 11th - Charlotte, NC - 2010 USATF National Club XC Championships, Syracuse powerhouse team, Stotan Racing, took 8th place in the Men's Open 10 km Team competition led by C. Fred Joslyn in 52nd place in 30:55, followed by Dominic Luka in 58th place in 31:04, Michael Pierce in 64th place in 31:13, Andrew Foxenberg in 92nd in 31:37, Peter Najem in 112th place in 31:59, and Jesse Berube in 129th place in 31:11. Syracuse Chargers Women's team took 12th place in the 6 km open run led by Amanda LoPiccilo in 26th place in 20:45, Jennifer Adams in 82nd place in 21:39, Amanda Jinks in 86th place in 21:46, Elizabeth Carey in 107th place in 22:06, Jacklynn Kosakowski in 137th place in 22:30, Muyrphee Hayes in 158th place in 22:44, and Robyn Ellerbrock in 201st place in 23:42. The Brockport Distance Project was 21st out of the 29 teams. The Genesee Valley Harriers took 9th place in the Masters Men's 10 km race, 6th place in the Masters Men's 50+ race, and 7th place in the 60+ race. GVH Women's team finished in the bronze medal position in the Masters Women's 6 km race and also in the 50+ team division. GVH standouts for the day were Sharon Moore who won the gold medal for the 55-59 age group, Jim Derick was 7th overall in 34:01, and Mark Rybinski was 3rd place bronze medal winner in the 55-59 age group, . 2010 November Highlights November 25th - Rochester - Kyle Heath of Syracuse won the 1st Annual Rochester Thanksgiving Day 8 km Run & USATF Niagara Championship with a time of 24:54, Jim Derick of Big Flats was 2nd in 26:44, and Matt Oberst of Farmington was 3rd in 28:20. The women's champion was Trisha Byler, pictured left with Dan Medved, of Rochester with a time of 29:19 followed by Amanda Jinks of Pavilion with a time of 29:39. Heather McWhirter of Glenwood finished 3rd in 30:25. The Masters Champions were Charlie Andrews of Rochester with a time of 28:58 and Beth DeCiantas of Rochester in 32:09. November 25th - Buffalo - Dennis Pollow of Ransomville won the 115th Annual Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot 8 km with a time of 24:07, Chris Walters, pictured left, of Tonawanda was 2nd in 24:29, Ryan O'Connor of Geneseo was 3rd in 25:00 followed by Jeff Beck of Fairport in 25:08. The women's winner was Jackie Rzepecki of Woodlawn with a time of 29:05.November 25th - Berwick, PA - C Fred Joslyn of East Syracuse finished 3rd with a time of 46:10 at the 101st Annual Run for the Diamonds 9 Mile Race. Hamburg finished with a time of 32:10 for the Syracuse team. Erik Van Ingen a native of Marathon finished 43rd for the University of Binghamton with a time of 30:35. Tim Quinn of Pittsford finished 116th with a time of 31:19 for the University of Richmond. The University of Syracuse women's cross country team finished 10th out of 31 schools in the women's championship. Syracuse was lead by Catherine DeSarle of Stormville who finished 50th with a time of 21:00. November 15th - Centre Park, Fairport, the Syracuse Chargers'women's team and Stotan Racing men's team won their respective titles at our 2010 USATF Niagara Association Open Cross Country Championships. Capturing the over men's title was Kyle Heathof Syracuse in 25:29. Amanda LoPiccolo won the overall woman's title in 22:55, in addition to leading her team. 2010 October Highlights Octobr 31st - Watkins Glen - Mark Andrews, pictured left, 40, of Rochester won the USATF Niagara Masters 6 km Cross Country Championships with a time of 19:52. Jim Derick, 45, of Big Flats was 2nd with a time of 20:22. The women's champion was Jennifer Peterson of Skaneateles with a time of 23:39. Elizabeth Randell of Buffalo was 2nd with a time of 24:21. The Top 4 Age Graded Performances from the race were Derick, Mark Rybi nski, 55, of Manlius, with a time of 22:21, Andrews, and Casey Carlstrom, 51, of Ithaca, with a time of 21:29.At our Masters XC Championships, Jim Derick, pictured left, of Big Flats was awarded the 2010 Niagara Association Master Athlete of the Year by Membership Chair Jim Glinsky, pictured on the right. In 2010 Jim has won a total of 6 Niagara Masters Championships. Starting in April Jim won the Half Marathon Championship in Rochester, in May the 10 km Championship in Rochester, in July the Mile Championship in Rochester followed by the 4 Mile Championship in Buffalo, in August the 5 km Championship in Bergen, and September winning the 15 km Championship in Buffalo. October 24th - Boston, MA - Amanda LoPiccolo finished 10th overall with a time of 17:39 in the women's 5 km at the 21st Annual Mayors Cup Cross Country Race. The Syracuse Chargers' women's team finished 5th out of 10 teams with 142 points. The scoring members of the Chargers were Cait Bradley was 27th with a time of 18:17, Amanda Jinks was 29th with a time of 18:26, Jen Adams was 45th with a time of 18:55, and Murphee Hayes was 49th with a time of 18:58. The winning team was New Balance Boston with 28 points. The overall winner was Kate Dicamillo of Boston, MA with a time of 17:06. October 24th - Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls, CAN - Steve Bohan, pictured with #118, of Boston was the winner of the 2010 Niagara Falls International Marathon with a time of 2:27:48. Jim Derick, pictured at far right, of Big Flats was 2nd with a time of 2:29:45 and age graded at 89%.October 17th - Colombus, OH - Jennifer Bigham of Rochester finished 3rd in the women's race at the 32nd Annual Columbus Marathon with a time of 2:51:55. Christina Keck of Allison Park, PA finished 9th with a time of 2:57:56. The overall women's winner was Elena Kaledina with a time of 2:44:20. The men's winner was Jennifer Bigham's brother Jason Ordway with a time of 2:18:08. ![]() October 16th - Greece - Kyle Heath, pictured in orange top, of Syracuse won the 15th Annual Run For Hospice 5 km with a time of 14:38, followed by Mark Andrews, pictured in black socks, of Rochester in 15:01, and Jeff Beck, pictured in red top, of Rochester in 15:09. Stephanie Pezzullo of Charlotte, NC won the women's race with a time of 16:58, followed by Paula Wiltse of Ontario, CAN in 17:20, and Trisha Byler of Rochester in 17:53. October 11th - Boston, MA - Molly Huddle of Providence, RI won the 2010 USA 10km National Championship at the Tufts Health Plan For Women 10km. Huddle ran 32:00 for the 10km to win the race. October 10th - Chicago, IL - C Fred Joslyn of East Syracuse finished 27th with a time of 2:21:23 at the Bank Of America Chicago Marathon. The overall winner was Sammy Wanjiru of Kenya with a time of 2:06:24. October 10th - Fabius - Kyle Heath of Syracuse won the 2nd Annual Bread For Schools Run 5 km with a time of 14:37. Ryley Miller of Syracuse was 2nd with a time of 14:50 followed by Justin Wager of Cortland with a time of 15:17. The women's winner was Amanda LoPiccolo of Oneonta with a time of 17:04 followed by Maegen Krifchin of Ithaca with a time of 17:29. The event also featured a half marathon won by Michael Pierce of Minoa with a time of 1:10:43 followed by Andrew Foxenberg with a time of 1:11:20. The women's winner was Laurel Leone-Burdick of Minoa with a time of 1:16:40 followed by Emila LaSala of Jamesville with a time of 1:19:24. October 10th - Scranton, PA - Mike Melfi of Clay finished 4th at the Steamton Marathon with a time of 2:33:05. The overall winner was Luke Watson of State College, PA with a time of 2:16:41. October 9th - Hartford, CT - Andrew McCann of Fayetteville finished 5th with a time of 1:09:05 at the 17th Annual ING Hartford Half Marathon. The overall winner was Derese Denibaba of Bronx with a time of 1:05:24. October 3rd - Saint Paul, MN - Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon hosted the 2010 USATF Men's Marathon Championships. Greece native Jeff Eggleston, pictured on left in black socks, who now trains and lives in Flagstaff, AZ, finished 2nd overall in 2:14:09, just seven seconds behide winner Serio Reyesof Palmdale, CA who ran 2:14:02, pictured of right. Eggleston established a new marathon PR for himself. Heather McWhirter of Glenwood, finished 24th in the women's race by running 2:52:45. 10-4-2010_twin_cities.com_article 230.03 Kb October 3rd - Syracuse - Syracuse Festival of Races for the third straight year hosted the 2010 USATF Masters National Championships. The overall masters champion was Christian Cushing-Murray, 42 of Santa Ana, CA who edged out Chad Newton, 40 of Pisgah Forest, NC with both men running 15:08. There was many impressive masters performances, which included 18 men age grading at 90% or better: Peter Magill, 49 of South Pasadena, CA ran a 15:20 at 95.5%, Alfred, native John Tuttle, 51 now living in Villa Rica, GA finished 5th in the age grading by running a 15:57 at 93.28%. The Top Niagara masters finishers were Casey Calstrom, 51 of Ithaca, who ran a 16:31 at 90.05%, Jim Derrick, 45 of Big Flats, who ran a 15:47 at 89.91%, and Richard Hoebeke, 61 of Trumansburg, who ran a 18:30 at 87.50%. In the women's race Emily Bryans, 43 of Schenectady, won the women's masters title by running a 17:17. The best performance of the day came from Kathryn Martin, 59 of Northport, who ran a 19:02 and age graded 99.19%. The Top Niagara master women age graded performances were Helen Botti, 73 of Kenmore, who ran a 27:00 at 86.77 and Sharon Moore, 56 of Rochester, who ran a 21:14 at 85.26%. The overall men's winner of the race were Ryley Miller of Syraucse, pictured left, who won by 6 seconds by running a 14:38 over Dominic Luka of Tully who ran a 14:44 and Andrew Foxenberg of Chiittenango placed 4th with a time of 15:03. Emily LaSala of Jamesville, won the open women's race by running a 17:01 and 2nd place was Karen Simmonds-Brady of Auburn who ran a 17:13. October 3rd - Oneonta - Amanda LoPic colo of Oneonta, pictured right, won the 17th Annual Pit Run 10k Road Race with a time of 36:20. Maegan Krifchin of Ithaca was 2nd with a time of 37:30. The women's winner was Meghan Nolan of Buffalo with a time of 17:43 followed by Allison Carr, pictured right, of West Seneca with a time of 17:54. September 26th - Utica - Kyle Heath of Syracuse won the 36 Annual Falling Leaves 5 km Road Race with a time of 15:04. The women's winner was Murphee Hayes of Marathon with a time of 18:44. September 26th - Mendon - Pete Glavin Upstate NY Cross Country Series kicked off at Mendon Ponds. The late Pete Glavin started this cross country race series in the fall of 1990. After the April 2010 recent passing of Glavin the Series has been named in his honor. Jeff Beck of Rochester won the men's race covering the 3 mile course in a time of 15:42. Jess Synder of Rochester won the women's race with a time of 18:54. September 19th - Philadelphia, PA - Aaron Rowe of Edinboro, PA finished 18th overall with a time of 1:06:21 at the ING Rock'N'Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon. The overall winner was Matthew Kisorio with a time of 1:00:15, which was a new course record. The field was loaded world class runners and top Americans such as Brett Gotcher of Flagstaff, AZ who finished 9th with a time of 1:02:50 and Ryan Hall of Mammoth Lakes, CA who finished 13th with a time of 1:03:55. September 19th - Providence, RI - Molly Huddle of Providence, RI won the CVS/Caremark Downtown 5 km, which was 2010 USA 5 km Championships with a time of 15:47. Huddle is coming off of a strong track season in Europe to pick up her first USA Circuit win of 2010. Dennis Pollow Jr of Ransomville finished 18th in the men's race with a time of 14:58. September 12th - Albany - Tim Chichester of Mount Morris won the Run for Dunkin 5 km with a time of 14:53 edging out Jared Newell of Cortland. September 6th - Buffalo - USATF Masters National Championships and Niagara Open & Masters Championships were hosted by Fleet Feet 15 km Run into Buffalo on Labor Day. Many masters athletes from around the country completed. Overall masters men's winner was Paul Aufdemberge, 45 of Redford, MI running 47:52 and age graded 93.84%. John Tuttle, 51 of Vallarica, GA finished 3rd overall in the masters age grading at 90.47% with 52:09. Niagara's Jim Derick, 45 of Big Flats, finished 4th overall masters age grading at 88.93% with a time of 50:31. Derick also was the top Niagara masters finisher. In the women's race Lori Kingsley, 44 of Wysox, PA won the masters chrown with a time of 55:37 and age graded to 88.34%. Kathryn Martin, 58 of Northport had the top performance of the day by running 1:01:02 and age graded to 95.16%. Some Notable Niagara performances from the masters women race were Helen Botti, 73 of Kenmore who ran a 1:24:19/ age graded to 86.69%, Coreen Steinbach, 59 of Pompey ran 1:08:26/age graded to 86:05. Elizabeth Randell, 43 of Buffalo won the USATF Niagara Masters Championship by finishing 4th overall for masters with a time of 59:25. In the open race Matt Loiselle of Toronto, Canada was the overall winner with a time of 45:48 and edged out Aaron Rowe of Edinboro, PA. Rowe won the USATF Niagara Open Championship and scored a time performance bonus. Michael Pierce of Minoa finished 3rd overall in 46:34 edging out C Fred Joslyn of East Syracuse who also ran a 46:34. Mark Andrews of Rochester was 5th overall in 47:44, Andrew McCann of Fayetteville was 7th with a time of 47:54, and Chris Walters of Tonawanda was 8th with a time of 48:03. In the women's open race Maegan Krifchin of Ithaca was the overall winner and USATF Niagara Champion by running a 54:41. Heather McWhirter of Glenwood who recently moved into the Niagara Association finished 2nd in 55:29. September 6th - New Haven, CT - Zachary Hine of Ithaca finished 17th overall with a time of 1:04:22 at the 2010 USATF 20 km Championship hosted by the Stratton Faxon New Haven 20 km Road Race. The overall winner was Sean Quigley of Philadelphia, PA with a time of 59:21. 2010 August Highlights August 29th - Binghamton - Maegan Krifchin of Ithaca finished 7th overall with a time of 16:42 and Amanda LoPiccolo finished 8th overall with a time of 17:03 at the 27th Annual Chris Thater Memorial 5 km. The race is an annual DWI prevention event that attracts world class runners and cyclists. On the men's side of the race Dennis Pollow, pictured wearing #5, of Ransomville finished 9th overall edging out the USATF Niagara 5 km Champion Michael Pierce of Minoa who finished 11th with a time of 14:40. Other notable finishers from the race were C Fred Joslyn of East Syracuse who finished 13th with a time of 15:08, Dave Bradshaw of Macedon who finished 15th with a time of 15:18, Justin Wager of Fayetteville who finished 18th with a time of 15:24, Scott Weeks of Cortland finished 19th with a time of 15:24, and Mike Melfi of Clay finished 27th with a time of 15:48. Jim Derick of Big Flats finished 4th for masters with a time of 15:50. The overall winners from the race were Simon Ndirangu with a time of 13:52 and Buzunesh Deba with a time of 15:52. August 27th - Bruessels, Belgium - Elmira native Molly Huddle set a new American Record in the 5,000 meters on the track by running 14:44.76 at the Diamond League Meet in Brussels. Huddle broke Shalane Flanagan's American Record by .04 seconds and finished 10th overall. The overall winner of the race was Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya with a time of 14:34.13. August 21st- Parkersburg, WV - Jeff Eggleston of Flagstaff, AZ finished 7th at the News & Sentinel Parkersburg Half Marathon with a time of 1:06:09, was the first American finisher in a very strong international field. The overall winner was Julius Kogo from Chapel Hill, NC with a time of 1:02:17. August 14th - Bergen - 2010 USATF Niagara 5 km Open & Masters Championships was hosted by the Jenny Kuzma Memorial Bergen 5 km. John Tuttle a native of Alfred now living in Vallarica, GA and former 1984 Olympian in the marathon finished 2nd overall in the masters division. Tuttle 51, finished 27th overall with a time of 16:41 which age grades to 89.12%. Jim Derick of Big Flats won the masters title with a time of 16:28. Women's Masters Champion was Audra Naujokas-Knapp of Rochester with a time of 20:56. The overall women's winner was Morgan Burrows of Corning in 17:19 and set a new course record. The runner-up was Karen Simmonds-Brady of Auburn in 17:33 followed by Trisha Byler of Rochester in 17:48. Jennifer Bigham of Rochester also broke the 18 minute mark by finishing 4th with a time of 17:53. In the men's race, Michael Pierce of Minoa, pictured above #138, outlasted a very deep competitive field with a time of 14:52. The field included defending champion Kyle Heath, who was runner-up this year in 14:56. Dominic Luka of Tully was third with a time of 15:02, Dennis Pollow Jr of Ransomville was 4th with a time of 15:05 followed by Tim Chichester of Mount Morris with a time of 15:10. Chichester out leaned Ryley Miller of Syracuse who finished 6th with the same time. 17 men were able to break the 16 minute mark at the Bergen Race. August 13th - London, England - Molly Huddle of Providence, RI finished 9th with a time of 14:57.93 in the women's 5000meter race at the Aviva London Grand Prix/Samsung Diamond League Track Meet. This is the 2nd time Huddle has run sub 15 minutes for a 5k. The overall winner was Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia with a time of 14:36.41. August 7th - Pittsford - The 2010 USATF Niagara Outdoor Championship & All Comers Meet took place at Nazareth College. The meet had various Track & Field events for athletes to compete in. This years meet had the most participants in its events history. New to the event this year were three featured events where the winners of these events were crowned USATF Niagara Championships and earned prize money. The winners of the featured events were in the Masters Hammer Throw - Joseph Benoit and Connie Ciccone, Pole Vault - Adam Helman and Gabrielle Sherwood, 1 Mile - Brian Lombardo and Karen Blodgett. 2010 July Highlights July 31st - Willoughby Hills, OH, The 2010 USATF 100 Mile Trail Championships was hosted by the Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run. Karen Fennie of Binghamton finished 9th overall in the women's race with a time of 28:05.19. Fennie also won the national championship in her age group which is the 50-54. Matthew Chaffin of Manlius finished 13 overall with a time of 18:37:55. Chaffin went onto place 5th in the 40-44 age group. July 22nd - 25th - Sacremento, CA, The 2010 USATF Masters Track & Field Championships was held at Sacrement State University. Coreen Steinbach of Pompey, finished 2nd in the women's 55-59 age group in the 400 meters with a time of 1:10.50 and 2nd in the women's 55-59 age group in the 800meters with a time of 2:43.94 July 16th - Paris, France, Molly Huddle of Providence, RI and a native of Elmira finished 8th in the women's 5,000 meter race with a time of 14:51.84 at the Samsung Diamond League Track Meet. Huddle's time is the 6th fastest women's time for an American. The winner of the 5,000 meter race was Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya with a time of 14:27.41. July 16th - Buffalo, Subaru Buffalo 4 Mile Chase celebrated its 30th running and did so by having 4 time Boston and NYC Marathon winner Bill Rodgers be a special guess as well as hosting the USATF Niagara 4 Mile Championships. Laurel Burdick, pictured left, of Stotan Racing won the USATF Niagara Championships by finishing 2nd overall with a time of 21:48. Burdick's efforts also earned herself an USATF Niagara Time Bonus. Maegan Krifchin of Syracuse was runner-up in the championship and was 6th overall with a time 22:37. Allison Carr, pictured right, rounded out the Top 3 Niagara finishers by finishing 10th overall with a time of 23:51. The overall women's winner was Bizunesh Deba of Ethiopa with a time of 20:53. In the men's race Bado Worku of Ethiopia outlasted Samuel Ndereba of Kenya and Derese Rashaw of Ethiopia by running 18:31. Dennis Pollow, pictured left, of Ransomville won the USATF Niagara 4 Mile Championships and was 2nd American by running 19:26. Mark Andrews of Rochester finished 9th overall and was the USATF Niagara runner-up with a time of 19:52. Derrick Jones of Henrietta finished 3rd for USATF Niagara and was 18th overall with a time of 20:55. The USATF Niagara 4 Mile Master Champions were Jim Derick of Big Flats with a time of 21:36 and Elizabeth Randell of Buffalo with a time of 25:05.July 11th - Utica, Many USATF Niagara members took part in the 33rd annual Utica Boilermaker 15 km Road Race. Jeff Eggleston of Flagstaff, AZ lead the Niagara Association finishers by finishing 16th overall and 4th American with a time of 46:19. Michael Pierce of Minoa was 18th with a time of 47:05, Fred Joslyn of Syracuse was 19th with a time of 47:16, Andrew McCann of Fayetteville was 21st with a time of 47:37, Tim Chichester of Mount Morris was 22nd with a time of 47:44, Jordan Davis of Clinton was 27th with a time of 48:19, Chris Mason of Auburn was 28th with a time of 48:28, Dominic Luka was 29th with a time of 48:32, Ryan O'Connor was 30th with a time of 48:35, Aaron Robertson was 32nd with a time of 49:03, Andrew Foxenberg of Chittenango was 36th with a time of 49:43, Dave Bradshaw of Rochester was 41st with a time of 49:57, Jon French of North Tonawanda was 46th with a time of 50:22, and Chad Byler of Rochester was 47th with a time of 50:29. In the women's race Laurel Burdick continues a strong 2010 of racing by finishing 9th overall with a time of 52:36 and top American finisher. Emily LaSala of Jamesville was 15th overall with a time of 54:35, Karen Simmonds-Brady was 16th with a time of 56:07, Jackie Kosakowski of Sauquoit was 56:41, Jill Skivington of Rochester was 27th with a time of 59:42, and Trisha Byler of Rochester finished in the top 30 for women with a time of 1:00:06. The overall men's winner was Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia with a time of 42:46 and the overall women's winner was Edna Kiplagat of Kenya with a time of 47:57. Both of these times were course records. July 9th - Rochester, Dennis Pollow Jr of Ransomville won USATF Niagara Road Mile Championships hosted by the Down Town Club East End Mile. Pollow ran 4:18.7, which is a new course record. Ryler Miller of Syracuse finished 2nd with a time of 4:24.7, Jeff Scull of Syracuse finished 3rd with a time of 4:26 followed by William Hoyne of Syracuse who finished 4th with a time of 4:36.2. June 20th - Rochester, Laurel Burdick of Stotan Racing and who lives in Manilus won Cure ALS Medved 5 km with a time of 16:52. Burdick is the first female who is a Niagara member in 2010 to break 17 minutes for a 5 km at a road race in the Niagara Association. June 19th - Pinkham Notch, NH, Jessica Snyder of Rochester finished 20th in the women's race at the 50th Running Of the Mt. Washington Road Race with a time of 1:27:35. The Mt. Washington Road Race is a 7.6 Mile Run that starts at the base of Mt. Washington and runs to the Summit. The race has about 6,288 ft. of Elevation climb in the race. Other notable Niagara finishers from the race were Michelle Weiler of Pittsford who finished 24th overall with a time of 1:29:05 and Jen Malik of Rochester who finished 44th overall with a time of 1:38:02. June 3rd, - Rochester, Mark Andrews of Rochester who works for Fleet Feet Sports Rochester won the men's race at the Rochester JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge with a time of 17:47. On the women side Morgan Burrows of Corning who works for Corning Glass won the women's race with a time of 20:02. Over 9,000 people took place in this year's Rochester Challenge. 2010 May Highlights May 27-28th - Berea, OH, Nick Guarino of Bergen who runs for SUNY Fredonia won the 2010 Division III Men's 1500 meter National Championship title with a time of 3:50.43. This is Guarino's 2nd national championship of the year as he captured the Division III Men's Indoor Mile title back in March. Michael Dempsey of RIT. was runner-up in the Men's Pole Vault by clearing 5.16m. On the women's side the Buffalo State 4 X 100 Relay Team finished 4th with a time of 46.79. May 23rd - Rochester, Medved Lilac 10 km hosted the USATF Niagara Open & Masters Championships. C Fred Joslyn of East Syracuse, pictured left, prevailed as the champion with a time of 24:29 by outlasting Neal Holtschulte of Rochester who ran 24:30. January 16th - Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State University Field House, Kent, OH, Reggie Rucker, of Buffalo, won the men's 60 meter hurdles in 7.86 and Sheldon Battle of Buffalo won the men's shot pu with a throw of 19.43 meters. ![]() Congratulations to Laurel Burdick of Manlius, pictured left winning 2009 HMRRC's Gazette Stoc kade-athon 15 km in November, and Jordan Davis of Clinton, pictured right, were named New England Runner Magazine's 2009 New York Female and Male Runner of the Year. Molly Huddle of Providence, RI (formally of Elmiria) was named Rhode Island Female Runner of the Year. James Derrick of Big Flats was selected as New York's Master Male Runner of the Year, Carl Grimm of Rochester at 70+ Male, Kyle Heath of Farmington as College Track Male, Katie Hurseyof Syracuse as Collegiate XC Female,and Alex Hatz of Manlius as High School Track Male. December 11th - Charlotte, NC - 2010 USATF National Club XC Championships, Syracuse powerhouse team, Stotan Racing, took 8th place in the Men's Open 10 km Team competition led by C. Fred Joslyn in 52nd place in 30:55, followed by Dominic Luka in 58th place in 31:04, Michael Pierce in 64th place in 31:13, Andrew Foxenberg in 92nd in 31:37, Peter Najem in 112th place in 31:59, and Jesse Berube in 129th place in 31:11. Syracuse Chargers Women's team took 12th place in the 6 km open run led by Amanda LoPiccilo in 26th place in 20:45, Jennifer Adams in 82nd place in 21:39, Amanda Jinks in 86th place in 21:46, Elizabeth Carey in 107th place in 22:06, Jacklynn Kosakowski in 137th place in 22:30, Muyrphee Hayes in 158th place in 22:44, and Robyn Ellerbrock in 201st place in 23:42. The Brockport Distance Project was 21st out of the 29 teams.
November 25th - Rochester - Kyle Heath of Syracuse won the 1st Annual Rochester Thanksgiving Day 8 km Run & USATF Niagara Championship with a time of 24:54, Jim Derick of Big Flats was 2nd in 26:44, and Matt Oberst of Farmington was 3rd in 28:20. The women's champion was Trisha Byler, pictured left with Dan Medved, of Rochester with a time of 29:19 followed by Amanda Jinks of Pavilion with a time of 29:39. Heather McWhirter of Glenwood finished 3rd in 30:25. The Masters Champions were Charlie Andrews of Rochester with a time of 28:58 and Beth DeCiantas of Rochester in 32:09.
November 25th - Buffalo - Dennis Pollow of Ransomville won the 115th Annual Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot 8 km with a time of 24:07, Chris Walters, pictured left, of Tonawanda was 2nd in 24:29, Ryan O'Connor of Geneseo was 3rd in 25:00 followed by Jeff Beck of Fairport in 25:08. The women's winner was Jackie Rzepecki of Woodlawn with a time of 29:05.
Hamburg finished with a time of 32:10 for the Syracuse team. Erik Van Ingen a native of Marathon finished 43rd for the University of Binghamton with a time of 30:35. Tim Quinn of Pittsford finished 116th with a time of 31:19 for the University of Richmond. The University of Syracuse women's cross country team finished 10th out of 31 schools in the women's championship. Syracuse was lead by Catherine DeSarle of Stormville who finished 50th with a time of 21:00. 
Octobr 31st - Watkins Glen - Mark Andrews, pictured left, 40, of Rochester won the USATF Niagara Masters 6 km Cross Country Championships with a time of 19:52. Jim Derick, 45, of Big Flats was 2nd with a time of 20:22. The women's champion was Jennifer Peterson of Skaneateles with a time of 23:39. Elizabeth Randell of Buffalo was 2nd with a time of 24:21. The Top 4 Age Graded Performances from the race were Derick, Mark Rybi
nski, 55, of Manlius, with a time of 22:21, Andrews, and Casey Carlstrom, 51, of Ithaca, with a time of 21:29.

colo of Oneonta, pictured right, won the 17th Annual Pit Run 10k Road Race with a time of 36:20. Maegan Krifchin of Ithaca was 2nd with a time of 37:30. On the men's side Kyle Heath of Syracuse, pictured left, was the overall winner with a time of 31:01.

Annual Linda Yalem Safety Run 5 km with a time of 15:05. The women's winner was Meghan Nolan of Buffalo with a time of 17:43 followed by Allison Carr, pictured right, of West Seneca with a time of 17:54.

August 14th - Bergen - 2010 USATF Niagara 5 km Open & Masters Championships was hosted by the Jenny Kuzma Memorial Bergen 5 km. John Tuttle

10th overall with a time of 23:51. The overall women's winner was Bizunesh Deba of Ethiopa with a time of 20:53. In the men's race Bado Worku of Ethiopia outlasted Samuel Ndereba of Kenya and Derese Rashaw of Ethiopia by
running 18:31. Dennis Pollow, pictured left, of Ransomville won the USATF Niagara 4 Mile Championships and was 2nd American by running 19:26. Mark Andrews of Rochester finished 9th overall and was the USATF Niagara runner-up with a time of 19:52. Derrick Jones of Henrietta finished 3rd for USATF Niagara and was 18th overall with a time of 20:55. The USATF Niagara 4 Mile Master Champions were Jim Derick of Big Flats with a time of 21:36 and Elizabeth Randell of Buffalo with a time of 25:05.
June 20th - Rochester, Laurel Burdick of Stotan Racing and who lives in Manilus won Cure ALS Medved 5 km with a time of 16:52. Burdick is the first female who is a Niagara member in 2010 to break 17 minutes for a 5 km at a road race in the Niagara Association.
May 23rd - Rochester, Medved Lilac 10 km hosted the USATF Niagara Open & Masters Championships. Rochester native Jeffrey Eggleston, pictured left, now living and training in Flagstaff, Arizona was the men's winner of the Niagara Championship and the Lilac Race. Eggleston won the race with a time of 30:09 over Genna Tufa of Bronx, NY. Eggleston's time also earned him a $200 USATF Niagara Time Bonus. Other Niagara
finishers who earned the USATF Niagara Time Bonus was Dennis Pollow Jr, pictured right, of Ransomville finished 3rd with a time of 30:40, Jordan Davis of Clinton finished 4th with a time of 30:50, and Dominic Luka of Marietta was 5th with a time of 30:56. Other Notable finishers were Zach Hine of Ithaca was 6th with a time of 31:09, Mark Andrews of Rochester was 7th with a time of 31:11, Andrew McCann of Fayetteville was 8th with a time of 31:22, and Ryley Miller of Syracuse was 9th with a time of 31:28. In the women's race Laurel Burdick of Manlius finished 4th overall and won the USATF Niagara Championship with a time of 34:56. Burdick earned the Time Bonus with her sub 35 performance. The USATF Niagara runner-up was Emily LaSala of Jamesville who finished 5th overall with a time of 36:07. Morgan Burrows of Corning rounded out the top 3 Niagara finishers with her 6th place finish a time of 36:45. The Medved Lilac 10 km women's champion was Salome Kosgei of Sleepy Hollow with a time of 33:44. The Niagara Master's Champions were Jim Derick of Big Flats with a time of 33:59 and Elizabeth Randell of Buffalo with a time of 40:13.
