Thank you for your interest in race walking.
As Race Walk Chair of the Niagara Association we have much room for improvement in the area of race walking.  The area has been blessed with loads of athletic talent over the years and has seen tremendous results at both the state and national levels.

Much thanks is owed to the individual efforts of high school coaches who keep their athletes competitive in the state meet.  Unfortunately, today’s situation has pretty much whittled our opportunities down to the girl’s indoor event.  Even so, many of these young women have continued on with success.  Occasionally, we will also see a few boys rise through the ranks, but they are much too infrequent.

There are a few excellent websites and an e-list server that offer great links and loads of information related to race walking in North America and beyond:
Most comprehensive site for race walk events: Miami Valley Track Club
Sites with great info on race walking are: Racewalk.com and Dave's World Class Racewalking.  Racewalk.com has some excellent tips on technique and suggested workouts from casual walker to elite level.
The link to the list server is: Racewalking Yahoo Group

Our neighboring association to the east, Adirondack Association, is the host of the USATF Open and Junior National 10 km Race Walk Championship and it is held in conjunction with the Freihofer’s Run for Women on May 30th in 2009.

In the Niagara Region we are also close to Canada.  The Ontario Track & Field Association has an events calendar which does include race walking events.  Some of their track meets may also have race walking divisions.  Two of their larger events are the Art Keay Memorial 10K in late May (Toronto) and the Rose City Walks in Welland in late September.

If you are interested in hosting a race walking event (race or clinic) in the Niagara Association, please contact us.  We'll do what we can to help promote it and if possible attend the event.
