$5,000 GVH CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

Nearly 350 athletes from 15 clubs across the Northeast, Midwest and province of Ontario will be on hand Sunday at Rochester’s Genesee Valley Park for the $5,000 GVH Cross Country Invitational.

The meet, sponsored by Rochester’s Genesee Valley Harriers in conjunction with the Monroe County Sport Development Corporation is the last major post-collegiate invitational prior to the US ATF National Club Championships, scheduled for December 4 in Portland, OR The $5,000  in prize money being offered is also one of the largest purses available in cross country running.

TEAM PRIZE MONEY:

1st Place M/W: $750.00
2nd Place M/W: $400.00
3rd Place M/W: $300.00
4th Place M/W: $200.00

INDIVIDUAL PRIZE MONEY:

1st Place M/W: $300.00

2nd Place M/W: $175.00
3rd Place M/W: $150.00
4th Place M/W: $125.00
5th Place M/W: $100.00

This year’s meet is also being used by organizers as a “dry-run” for the venue that will host the 2005 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships, which are slated for Saturday, November 26, 2005

The three races scheduled for Sunday will be run over a European-style, 2000 meter all-grass meter loop course that will allow

spectators to watch each race in its’ entirety.

THE SCHEDULE:

9:30am: Masters Men 6km (Including the USA vs. Canada dual)
10:15am: Masters Women and Championship Women's 6k
11:00am: Championship Men's 8k

The Masters races will feature the annual Canada vs. USA Masters dual meet in which our respective countries compete for the Fleischman Cup, emblematic of North American cross country supremacy.
 
Tara Quinn-Smith  from the Toronto Olympic Club will be back to defend her GVH Invite title and will be challenged by strong contingents from the Indiana Invaders, Greater Boston Track Club, Maryland's Team CMAC as well as the hometown GVH women and regional powers Checkers AC of Buffalo, the Syracuse Chargers and the Finger Lakes Runners Club.
 
Andrew Smith will be back to defend his Open Men's title as well. His Toronto Olympic Club teammates will be challenged by national power Bryn Mawr Running Co (5th in last years US Club XC Championships) along with cross town rival, the Philadelphia Track Club. Also entered are the Greater Boston TC men, Albany's Willow Street AC, the Manhattan Track Club, Syracuse TC, Syracuse Chargers, Ithaca's High Noon AC and Buffalo's Checkers AC.
 
Rochester’s Genesee Valley Harrier men will be led by Ryan Pauling, Jason DeJoy and Jon Beck. Scott Bagley makes his GVH debut on home turf as well after his 5th place finish on Sunday at the Masters 8k XC Championships.

Interested athletes may register for the event on Saturday from 2-5pm at Genesee Valley Park’s Tupelo Shelter and from

5-8 pm at the host hotel, the Clarion Riverside Hotel on Main Street in downtown Rochester. Rehgsitration will also be available on race morning, beginning at 8:30am. The entry fee for the event is $12.00.

Admission is free, Parking is plentiful. Soup, Javana coffee, Krispy Kreme donuts, Bagels, cider, apples, etc, will be available for all.  It'll be a great way to spend a sunny and brisk late fall day.
